6 pm  Opening Night Reception

7:30 pm  Opening Night

Opening ceremony, opening program, and film CONNECTED.

BuddhaFest opens its third annual festival with a ceremony that energetically links everyone in the audience. Our opening program celebrates the interdependence of all life.

Bhante Uparatana leads an opening chant and meditation. He is the Buddhist Chaplain at American University and head monk of the International Buddhist Center in Wheaton. Several monks from the Center and from the Wat Thai Temple in Silver Spring join him.
.
Filmmaker Tiffany Shlain then takes us on a warm and exhilarating journey of self-discovery with CONNECTED, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Witty and poignant, it’s a personal film with universal relevance. It leads us to the liberating idea that after centuries of declaring our independence, it just may be time for us to declare our INTERdependence.
.
After the film, Shlain connects with us via Skype and takes questions from the audience.
