Trudi (Hannelore Elsner) and Rudi (ElmarWepper) are an affectionate, long-married couple whose children have grown up and moved away. When Trudi learns that her husband is terminally ill, she keeps it from him, and urges him to see more of life and visit their children.

The story takes an unexpected turn when on a trip to Tokyo, during the Cherry Blossom Festival, Rudi strikes up and unlikely friendship with a young Butoh dancer who touches his heart and helps connect him to his deeper self. This film starts simply and builds into a surprisingly powerful meditation on what matters in life.
